The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that a depression had formed over the southeast Arabian Sea and is anticipated to track northwestward, intensifying into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday.
Sea conditions are likely to be very high along and off the Kerala-Karnataka coasts and Lakshadweep-Maldives areas on June 6 and Konkan-Goa-Maharashtra coasts from June 8 to June 10. Fishermen out at sea have been advised to return to the coast
Weather alert: While the IMD forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Kerala from June 2-5, it also predicted heat wave conditions in certain parts of India. Check details here
While the IMD has predicted that the monsoon will be delayed this year, that’s not a cause for concern. Regional variations in rainfall, extreme rainfall events, and the developing El Nino are bigger worries.
