Election to three Rajya Sabha seats from Kerala falling vacant next month will be held on April 12, the Election Commission said on Wednesday. Abdul Wahab of the IUML, K K Ragesh of the CPI-M and Vayalar Ravi of the Congress are retiring on April 21, the Commission said. The notification for the biennial elections will be issued on March 24. As per practice, votes will counted in the evening of April 12 after conclusion of polling at 4 pm.

Thiruvananthapuram: March 17: It’s a homecoming that former NDA Union Minister P.C. Thomas was wanting for a while and on Wednesday he is set to return to the Congress-led UDF.
The Kerala Congress (M) faction led by P.J. Joseph and P.C. Thomas’s party are going to merge and will now be known as the Kerala Congress, and Thomas said this will happen later on Wednesday at Kaduthurthi in Kottayam at an election rally of Mons Joseph, sitting legislator, seeking re-election from the same seat.
“We have decided to become one, and we will be known as the Kerala Congress, a party with no bracket. I decided to leave the NDA as our party, which was given four seats in the 2016 Assembly polls was not given even a single seat, despite being an ally. They had asked me to contest from Pala, but since I had personal issues and decided not to contest. Do not know if that’s why we were not given a single seat,” said Thomas.
Former Kerala Congress leader PC Chacko will joined the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party today. After having been a part of it for decades, he quit his former organisation on March 10 following differences over seat allocation.

New Delhi: Ahead of upcoming Kerala Assembly polls, former Congress leader PC Chacko joined Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday (March 16).
In the presence of Pawar, Chacko officially joined NCP. Addressing the mediapersons in Delhi, he emphasized on the the need of a united opposition . Today, the need is the unity of the opposition. A united opposition should emerge as an alternative to the BJP. I don t see that initiative in the party which I was a member of earlier, ANI quoted him as saying.
