Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday expressed grave concern over the spike in cases in the state with 41,953 people turning Covid positive after 1,63,321 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. Things are serious as the test positivity rate (TPR) also is not coming down and hence, ward level committees and medical students also will now be actively involved. Apart from that, those medical graduates, who are waiting for registration, will be given temporary registration, which will enable them to get to work, he said.
Dip in COVID-19 numbers attributable to ‘Monday phenomenon’ when testing decreases over the weekend
The State added 26,011 new COVID-19 cases to its tally on Monday, when 96,296 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
The dip in daily new cases was likely a reflection of the ‘Monday phenomenon’ that has been evident in the State since long when a decrease in testing over the weekend results in a lower daily case number. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan pointed out that disease transmission in the State continued to be very high and that a high state of vigil had to be maintained.
The average test positivity rate (TPR) in the State registered 27.01% on Monday. The active case pool grew to include 3,45,887 patients.
On 29 April, Kerala witnessed 38,607 fresh Coronavirus cases.

KERALA: Earlier this month, the Maharashtra government enforced a state-wide halt on film and TV shooting, and given the second wave of Covid is spreading like wildfire in the nation, it was only a matter of time before other states followed suit. Now, the Kerala government has issued guidelines to suspend filming in the state.
Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, during his routine press conference at 5.30pm, informed media outlets that directions have been given to stop serial and film shooting in the state until further notice. Earlier, TV serial and film shoots in Ernakulam were suspended following the rise in Covid cases, and now the government has decided to suspend it in the entire state.

Thiruvananthapuram:
Kerala s Covid-19 vaccination drive will go ahead uninterrupted , tweeted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday, adding that the state will purchase 1 crore doses of the two vaccines currently in use in India - Covishield and Covaxin - from the open market.
The announcement assumes significance as a few states have said that the vaccine roll-out for 18-45 years category may be delayed since the manufacturers have made it clear that they will negotiate future orders only after meeting their prior commitment to the central government.
Vijayan pointed out that the situation is so grave because soon after the local body polls in December last year the daily number of cases reached 2,000 and the test positivity rate reached 11 per cent.
