The developer of the former Burlington Police Department building at 201 N. Third St. has asked the city for partial payment of the building s demolition costs.
Merge Urban Development Group, a development company with offices in Cedar Falls and Wisconsin, asked that the city pay one-third of the previous agreement amount to the company before demolition in recognition of the work the company already has done to the building. (If approved,) this would amend the terms of agreement to Merge, interim city manager Jim Ferneau said Monday during the city council s work session.
The Burlington City Council already agreed to pay $500,000 to Merge when it purchased the building from the city last year in exchange for the building s demolition as it was likely unsalvageable and would need to be torn down anyway.
