KALAMAZOO, MI The restaurant and bar industries have been under the microscope as the world grapples with how to safely gather and enjoy dining during a global pandemic.
After a slew of executive orders have opened, closed and restricted the industry, a look back at 2020 shows that at least 11 Kalamazoo business owners took the risk of opening, despite the pandemic.
MacKenzies’ Bakery in Kalamazoo to close permanently

KALAMAZOO, MI MacKenzies’ Bakery in Kalamazoo will close its doors permanently this month.
The bakery’s last business day is scheduled for Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, the bakery said on its Facebook page.
“We are sorry to announce that, after much reflection, we have concluded it is time for MacKenzies’ Bakery to close its doors,” owner John MacKenzie wrote in the post on Facebook.
“In the 40 years since my family opened on West Main Street, you have welcomed us into the Kalamazoo Community,” MacKenzie said. “We still treasure the support our customers provided then, and remain grateful for the warm relationships formed over the years.”
