Equipment backlog could impact Madison Township summer mowing

MADISON TOWNSHIP - The economic effect of the COVID pandemic likely will keep Madison Township from getting a new tractor and mower in time for this summer’s roadside mowing season.
Trustee Cathy Swank presented the news during Monday night’s regular trustees’ meeting.
The purchase has been on the back burner since fall when Swank said the township needed to buy a new boom mower for the road department by this spring because of continuing problems with the current mower. She said Monday she talked with road department foreman Jim Baker about the type of equipment needed and researched prices.
MADISON TOWNSHIP - The Madison Township Fire Department could be limited in the future in the number of equipment grants it can apply for from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The bad news came in a written activity report from new fire chief Kenneth Justus that was read, in part, at Monday’s trustees’ meeting.
Justus recently met with the department’s grant writer, Mickey Smith of Ohio First Responder Grants LLC, who said the problem stems from the department applying to the program for too many grants in a relatively short period of time. The grants include one awarded in 2016 for new firefighter turnout gear and another that helped pay for one of two new tanker-pumper trucks that were dedicated in 2019.
