Berkley resumes evaluation of Coolidge Highway restriping project

BERKLEY In 2019, the city of Berkley began a restriping and lane reduction project on Coolidge Highway.
The project reduced the number of lanes on the roadway from four to two and added a middle turn lane, bike lanes and additional on-street parking. The aim of the restriping was to improve traffic, bring more attention to the downtown and decrease accidents.
The original plan for Berkley was to conduct a 24-month research process to evaluate whether the road diet achieved its desired effect. After a year, the city was going to determine, from the data it collected, whether it would continue on for another year or revert the road back to its original design.

COLUMBUS, Ohio Police have identified a suspect, as well as a man who was shot and killed in the Linden area early Monday morning, according to police.
Police were called around 12:30 a.m. to the 1700 block of Kenmore Road. When they arrived, they found a man leaving the area in his vehicle.
That man was stopped by officers who learned he had suffered a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.
Around 8:45 a.m. Sunday, police received a call about a man reported to be attempting to break into the Glenwood Avenue home. When officers arrived, the man said he was there because his cousin was dead inside.
Officers went into the home and found two men, identified Monday as 44-year-old Carlos Benito, of the Near East Side, and 42-year-old Jeremy Bickerstaff, of Reynoldsburg. Both Benito and Bickerstaff were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 43-year-old man who also was injured and taken to Ohio State University s Wexner Medical Center in stable condition.
About 16 hours later, officers were called around 12:35 a.m. Monday to a report of a shooting in the area of the Kenmore Square apartments on the 1700 block of Kenmore Road on the Northeast Side.
There was a shooting in the city last week that drew a considerable amount of attention. Maybe you heard about it.
What am I saying? Of course you heard about it. If you were in central Ohio last week, you heard about it.
Police say two armed young men with a beef encountered each other inside the mall. One fired shots at the other inside a Carter s baby clothing store. The shooter left the mall, but his target followed him outside and returned fire.
No one was hurt, but the shooting understandably sent shoppers and mall employees running for cover. Columbus police and other nearby law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene in droves, a warranted reaction based on the limited early information about daytime gunfire in a mall.
