Columbus police homicide detectives said Derek Hoston, of the Northeast Side, was found critically wounded around 12:35 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Kenmore Square apartments, located on the 1700 block of Kenmore Road, west of Joyce Road.
Hoston was rushed to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he died at 1:29 a.m. Monday, detectives said.
A 23-year-old man was found in a vehicle that was leaving the area and was treated at an area hospital for a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening, investigators said.
Detectives have not released any information about possible suspects in the case.
Hoston s death is the city s 69th homicide in 2021 and was one of three reported within a 16-hour period between Sunday and Monday.
Berkley resumes evaluation of Coolidge Highway restriping project

BERKLEY In 2019, the city of Berkley began a restriping and lane reduction project on Coolidge Highway.
The project reduced the number of lanes on the roadway from four to two and added a middle turn lane, bike lanes and additional on-street parking. The aim of the restriping was to improve traffic, bring more attention to the downtown and decrease accidents.
The original plan for Berkley was to conduct a 24-month research process to evaluate whether the road diet achieved its desired effect. After a year, the city was going to determine, from the data it collected, whether it would continue on for another year or revert the road back to its original design.
