Suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton solicited the help of Nate Paul, a wealthy donor, in setting up an Uber account under the fake name “Dave P” so he could see his mistress, according to court documents.
Nineteen articles of impeachment are related to allegations taking place before Ken Paxton’s most recent election for Texas attorney general in 2022. Because of that, lawyers for the embattled Republican argue they should be dismissed.
Paxton, a 60-year-old Republican who was criminally indicted in 2015 but has yet to stand trial, also faces an impeachment trial in the Texas Senate this summer.
Nate Paul is accused of making false statements to financial institutions in New York and Connecticut. According to the indictment, he lied about his liabilities and cash.
The Republican-led House impeached the attorney general on 20 articles last month, making him only the third high-ranking official to be impeached in the state’s history.
