flash flooding and extensive damage leaving 90,000 people without power. these latest storms come less than two weeks after the series of deadly tornadoes ravaged moore. killing 23 people. the tornado touched down in st. louis prompting the consolation of the baseball game. for more on the deadly tornadoes in oklahoma, we go to nbc s mark potter who joins us live from oklahoma city. reporter: hey, steve, the last thing that central oklahoma needed at this time was another round of tornadoes but that s what they got. they cropped up yesterday afternoon into the evening, out west of this area. they first hit in rural areas and then in small towns and then made their way to the suburbs of oklahoma city and into the airport area. the airport was closed down. all flights canceled. they are still not running at this time now. as you said, five people were killed. confirmed so far. two of them include a woman an her infant killed in their car. three others also killed in their veh
ken melman, part of the bush campaign where gay marriage was a wedge issue, where it was a relevant issue, is now one of the lead voices in the republican party pushing for freedom to marry for equality. you know, what i m sensing in the republican party, and i talk to a lot of congressmen and senators, is that the tone and the way that we are talk about gay marriage has changed tremendously. even in the last six months, people know it s no longer politically liable to go out and rant and rave about gay marriage. they understand there s no standing right now, and there will be even less than in three years to go out and judge people. there will always be one or two candidates, but they are not going to be viable and be the republican nominee.
what do you think is the possibility of this, though, having some influence? i mean, are people listening? is it that he is a voice in a louder growing sort of message there or is his singular voice important? he is a voice in such a big conversation. a few months ago, almost a year ago, rob portman was considered a vice presidential candidate for mitt romney very much opposed to gay marriage. we have seen rob say he is for gay marriage. the shift in this country has been so dramatic and strong on this, we are seeing ceos, hillary clinton, republican senators, republican members of congress, ken melman, ex-republican chair, talked about gay marriage and opposition now being for gay marriage. the court can t ignore how strong the movement in the country, pretty much everyone below 30 is for gay marriage. hard to imagine they ll buck
