Police arrest Kankakee man for shooting on VanDerKarr Road

KANKAKEE — A Kankakee man was arrested for a shooting in Kankakee County on Sunday night. Alexis Calderon, 19, of Kankakee, was arrested by Kankakee County sheriff’s police. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. A judge set his bond at $50,000. Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken McCabe said at 8 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East VanDerKarr Road for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found six 9mm shell casings in the road. A house and vehicle had both been hit by gunfire.Two people were in the home at the time of the shooting.

UPDATED: Police, coroner investigate accident in Pembroke Township

PEMBROKE TOWNSHIP — Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle fatal accident that occurred Tuesday in Pembroke Township. Dianne L. Skinner, 56, of Remington, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:55 p.m., Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Skinner’s 2004 Mazda was eastbound on East Central Street when the accident occurred. A woman driving behind Skinner’s vehicle said the Mazda was weaving back and forth on the road, Kankakee County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken McCabe said. Skinner’s car left the roadway in the 14500 block of East Central Street and slowly traveled 50 feet before coming to rest in a ditch.
