Wareham zone change could hinge on town-meeting-vote decision

Wareham zone change could hinge on town-meeting-vote decision Wicked Local WAREHAM – Whether a proposed zoning change needs a simple majority or two-thirds majority to pass at the April 10 town meeting is still a question. Town Planning Director Ken Buckland said Town Counsel Rich Bowen had ruled it qualifies for a simple majority vote under a new state law’s guidelines. The town Planning Board is charged with recommending which vote should apply at town meeting. The board is also being asked to make its recommendation whether the change should be approved at town meeting. Buckland said he had also reached out to the state Dept. of Housing and Community Development for an opinion whether it’s a simple majority or two thirds majority vote.

When negotiating a host community agreement with a marijuana company, the town can set conditions, charge a community impact fee and clarify the responsibilities of the town and business owner.
