The letter sent to voters.
Voters across Wareham received a letter recently that contained the Finance Committee’s recommendation of the passage of the Notos Group’s Hospitality, Recreation and Entertainment District.
“We had nothing to do with it,” said Bernie Pigeon, the Finance Committee’s chair.
Pigeon said that the text of the letter was the committee’s public report, but the bold print was added by whoever mailed the letter.
“Our report is a public document but when reprinted, and changed, they must I.D. themselves,” Pigeon said. “We have no idea who did this.”
The Notos Group has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Wareham zone change could hinge on town-meeting-vote decision
Wicked Local
WAREHAM – Whether a proposed zoning change needs a simple majority or two-thirds majority to pass at the April 10 town meeting is still a question.
Town Planning Director Ken Buckland said Town Counsel Rich Bowen had ruled it qualifies for a simple majority vote under a new state law’s guidelines.
The town Planning Board is charged with recommending which vote should apply at town meeting. The board is also being asked to make its recommendation whether the change should be approved at town meeting.
Buckland said he had also reached out to the state Dept. of Housing and Community Development for an opinion whether it’s a simple majority or two thirds majority vote.
