Raising the issue of Adequate Police staffing for several years. In june of 2018, the budget and legislative analysts provided this board with a performance audit of the San Francisco Police Department so we could better understand, number one, how the police are deploying police staff that is funded by the general fund and number two, how uniform staff is allocated to administrative versus patrol duties. The recommendations of that audit was that in light of an increase in property crime in our city, accompanying the public demand for more officers in the street, the sanfrancisco Police Department should civilianize as many administrative positions as possible. This is the best practise recognized by major Law Enforcement, including the International Association of chiefs of police and adopted by most major Law Enforcement departments in the country. Incorporating more technology in communicating with our riders about our services and such. We partner with slide wheel to allow our paratransit taxi riders to use their app to request a taxi. In particular, if you are a wheelchair user, you can specifically ask for a wheelchairaccessible taxi using the app. We have launched a taxi online portal, which allows for paratransit taxi riders to pay their portion of the taxi of their taxi debit card as well as view their trip history and report lost or stolen cards through this online interface. And we have two advisory committees who advise the m. T. A. Paratransit about the accessibility issues that they face throughout the city. One of them is the paratransit council. This is comprised of paratransit riders, Service Providers and communitybased represent i haves. They advise the m. T. A. Its often said these days that sitting is the new smoking, and if so we all have done damage to our health over the past hour and a half. But there is new research that shows that another aspect of modern living is detrimental which is loneliness. Although it doesnt affect seniors only, it does affect them because of a loss of a partner or friend, because of more people being childless. The effect is so great that it is more dangerous to our health than obesity. Loneliness is the same as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. While i dont suggest restoring these classes will cure the issue of loneliness in our city, it is something that should be considered in addition to the benefits of lifelong learning.
