Anyone going to the gym in Hong Kong must wear a mask from midnight on Thursday (March 11), after a “super-spreading” coronavirus cluster linked to a popular fitness centre in the city affected international schools, banks and other gyms, and resulted in more than 240 people being quarantined.
In a statement, the government said the rule would be in force for six days. Previously, apart from those in group classes, people working out at a gym were not required to wear masks.
The move came as a chronically ill 70-year-old woman died on Thursday, after getting the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine on March 2, while a 67-year-old man, who took the jab on the same day, remained in critical condition after he collapsed at noon.

Blair Crichton was four years old when his parents helped him understand the connection between the meat on his plate and the animals it was derived from. Horrified, he put down his fork and refused to eat meat.
That was 31 years ago, and today the Hong Kong-born banker turned entrepreneur is co-founder of Asia’s first whole-plant meat company, Karana.
From junior school at Kellett School, he went to boarding school in Australia, where it was more challenging to not eat meat. He resumed his vegetarian diet at Durham University in the UK where he did an undergraduate degree in politics, philosophy and economics and wrote a paper on the moral value of animals.

I recently published a piece titled, “My Son’s School Has Closed Again. Stop This.” I was overwhelmed by the numbers – parents including hedge fund managers, bankers, journalists, and others – who felt compelled to respond.
Clearly, it struck an emotional chord. One mother said she’d read my column “whilst nodding vigorously!” and that she couldn’t begin to explain how hard her 10-year-old daughter had been hit. Another wrote about sending her son to play therapy. A father bemoaned the travails of online learning and the “madness” of it all. There was empathy and sympathy; anger and frustration; hopelessness. I didn’t have many answers, but several emails and texts choked me up.
