BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WV News) â A Clarksburg couple left two toddlers alone in an unlocked and running car while they smoked meth in the parking lot of the Gabriel Brothers store before going inside, Bridgeport police allege.
John Brandon Green, 35, and Candy Ann Kincaid, 31, also left a pipe with presumed meth residue in it, police have alleged.
A witness said the children were alone in the vehicle for about 20 minutes, police alleged.
Patrol Officer Scott Toothman has charged Green and Kincaid with felony child neglect creating risk of injury.
They remained jailed Friday after initial appearances before Harrison Magistrate Keith Marple.
Judge McCarthy
On Thursday, Harrison Circuit Judge Chris McCarthy became the latest judge locally to postpone a trial, citing the virus as good cause.
McCarthyâs ruling came over the objection of defense attorney Tom Dyer and his client, Roosevelt James Bradford, 37, of Columbus, Ohio.
Harrison Assistant Prosecutor Brad Pustolski had requested the continuance.
Pustolski cited high infection rates for COVID-19 in the region and the state, as well as record deaths.
He also noted that at least 30 prospective jurors would have to be brought to court, along with 12 to 20 witnesses.
Some of those witnesses â experts â also could be coming from trials in other parts of the state, Pustolski noted.
Three men were arrested.
Wayne Timothy Woods III, also known as Beans Ozama, 21, of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, is charged with distribution of fentanyl Oct. 12 at a residence in Clarksburg.
William Daniel Aman, 31, of Bridgeport, is charged with delivery of fentanyl Nov. 10 in Clarksburg, possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, meth and hydrocodone June 25 in Harrison County and a meth-related charge dating to 2018, also from Harrison County.
Justin Camden Garrett, 30, of Clarksburg, is charged with three counts of delivery of fentanyl (July 30, Aug. 3 and Oct. 13), one count delivery of meth (Aug. 1), possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, meth and hydrocodone (June 25) and conspiracy.
