The trout fishing opener saw fewer fish caught, but were bigger than usual. A group of teachers hit Pleasant Lake near Crosslake, fishing from shore. Jack Fish caught this 6-8 rainbow after a tough fight. Band director Dan Campbell had one on that was estimated at seven pounds, but forgot his net, the hook broke and he lost it.

Joni Meyer, a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Assn. teaching and club professional division, has returned from LPGA training courses at Daytona Beach, FL, and Phoenix, AZ. Meyer works out of Breezy Point Resort s Whitebirch Golf Club.

This truck belonged to Silas Hall s Transfer Line just after World War I. It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street). Workers are completing the new Welcome to Baxter sign on the C. Elmer Anderson Memorial Highway (Hwy 371 bypass). The large wooden sign greets visitors northbound into Baxter.
