There is tension in the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the endorsement of the state Chairman, Chief Bisi Kolawole, as the governorship candidate by former Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose ahead of the 2022 governorship poll.
DAILY POST gathered on Sunday that Fayose communicated Kolawole’s endorsement to members of his political platform, Osoko People’s Assembly (OPA) at a meeting held at his Afao Ekiti country home and the development is causing ripples in the party.
The anointing of Kolawole was an indication that Fayose has abandoned former Governor Segun Oni, who recently made an open declaration; 2018 governorship candidate, Prof Olusola Eleka and 2018 deputy governorship candidate, Mr. Deji Ogunsakin, who was believed to be the favourite for the ticket before the latest development.

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the lawmaker representing Ekiti South, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has rejected the decision of the Court of Appeal that recognised the ward executives loyal to the former governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose.
Consequently, Olujimi’s loyalists vowed to approach the Supreme Court to determine whether the conduct of the PDP ward congress in Ekiti by the National Working Committee (NWC) was in line with the PDP Constitution.
The factional Publicity Secretary, Mr Sanya Adesua, disclosed this plan in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital after an exhaustive deliberation on the last Thursday’s judgement of the appellate court at the weekend.

The Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party faction loyal to Senator Biodun Olujimi on Saturday resolved to approach the Supreme Court over the ward congresses of the party which held in March 2020.
The faction, rising from a meeting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, stated that “after extensive deliberation, considering the pros and cons, the appellate court judgment on the matter should be appealed at the Supreme Court, where it is believed that justice will be manifestly done.”
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the state factional Publicity Secretary, Sanya Adesua, the party praised its members “for their steadfastness and belief in the eventual triumph of justice over injustice and truth over falsehood”.
