BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â During a Board of Education meeting Wednesday night, Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash announced that the district will not reduce the minimum distance between people from six feet to three feet.
The superintendent said this decision was made with a recommendation from the district s medical director.
The New York State Department of Health released updated guidance on Friday that allows school districts in the state to reduce the minimum distance between people from six feet to three feet.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) â Friday, New York State released updated guidance regarding in-person learning. The state s updated guidance said schools can reduce the minimum physical distance between students in classrooms from six feet to three feet.
On March 19, the CDC issued a new recommendation that with face coverings students at K-12 schools should maintain a distance of at least three feet in classroom settings.
Monday, the Williamsville Central School District released its plan for a return to in-person learning in response to the new state guidance.

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) â The Buffalo School Board voted Wednesday to shuttered two city charter schools, Enterprise and Westminster Community charter schools.

Enterprise Charter School, Oak Street, Buffalo & Westminster Community Charter School in Kensington-Bailey neighborhood.
If the schools are forced to close by the end of June it would mean nearly 1,000 school students will need to find a new school.
âIn a bit of shock and certainly very concerned with the decision,â responded Thomas Ess, interim board chair, Enterprise Charter School. âWith all due respect, we just don t think that now is the right time for our students to be put in that position.â

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash provided an update on Phase III and Phase IV of reopening Thursday.
In a letter to board members and the BPS community, Cash said:
Covid-19 infections are rising again across the region, a more contagious variant is spreading, and we are working to recover from a malicious cyberattack. Those significant challenges notwithstanding, I have directed staff to bring back all remaining high school opt-in students on April 26th. Remaining elementary opt-in students will come back on May 10th. We will discuss further details at our April 14th Board Work Session and defer to updated recommendations from our Medical Director and local health experts.

According to a BPS spokesperson, staff has restored the functionality of equipment, systems, and applications in the majority of our buildings over the weekend and today. 54 of 67 locations report no disruption to internet and wireless systems as of this afternoon.
Officials say students will remain at home Tuesday and each school will send a message regarding when to log on for office hours, to learn the new log on process and participate in asynchronous learning. Wednesday will be a full day of remote learning.
