At the same time, things like appliances and furniture are not just more expensive, they re harder to find.Sign up for our Newsletters Many are spending more on food these days. Overall, food prices are up 3.5% compared to last spring, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. However, the rising costs vary depending on what s in your cart. Milk and dairy are up more than 1.5% over the past year. Fruits and vegetables increased a little more than 3%, and meat, fish and eggs are up almost 5.5%, according to government data.
