Black patients tend to receive lower-quality health care, including treatment for cancer, HIV, prenatal care and preventive care, the New York Times has reported. According to the Times’ “The 1619 Project,” there has never been a period in American history where the health of Black people was equal to that of whites.
It’s no surprise, then, that some members of Rhode Island’s Black community are suspicious about getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
Dr. Katrina Byrd, an internist at Lifespan who is board-certified in infectious diseases, is one of the doctors tasked with reaching out to the Black community about the importance of getting vaccinated.
