On Tuesday, council voted unanimously eight to zero (Coun. Walsh recused himself due to a conflict of interest) to designate areas in up to six parks through Kamloops for outdoor fitness classes at rates similar to those charged by the City of Kelowna. Kelowna’s park permit fees are a fraction of what is charged in Kamloops. McLeod said she has been paying for indoor studio space she currently cannot use, as it has been forced to close due to public health orders during the pandemic. City park permit fees were another financial hit, estimated at about $600 per month. McLeod said if she can run classes in a couple of city parks per day, she might be able to bring in a few thousand dollars in revenue per month.
