Carol Black-Lemon, vice-chair of the West Orange Arts Council and curator of “Objet Trouvé: An Exhibit of Found Objects” at the West Orange Arts Center (WOAC) at 551 Valley Road, was excited to create this exhibit because she believed that everyone needed something different, whimsical, silly, thought provoking and inspiring to get through the monotony of being quarantined at home.

Mixed-up media: North Jersey gallery exhibits works made by repurposed materials Updated Jan 08, 2021; The West Orange Arts Council will present “Objet Trouvé, An Exhibit of Found Objects” online beginning tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 9, with in-person visits available by appointment starting a week later. Curated by WOAC vice-chair Carol Black-Lemon, the exhibit will showcase works constructed from unorthodox materials by 19 artists. Objet trouvé is a French term describing art created from undisguised, modified or ordinary materials elements or substances not normally considered to create art or already have a non-art function. “We are really excited about this exhibit, featuring artists from West Orange, Newark, Essex County, Hunterdon County/Bucks County and Florida,” said arts council board chair Patricia Mitrano. “It demonstrates that art can be created using everyday objects found all around you, from delivery packaging, broken china/jewelry or old computer parts
