March 11 2021 10:40 AM EST A bakery in Texas is facing two separate lawsuits from former employees alleging they were fired due to anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination. Gilbert Johnson and Katherine Phillips told OutSmart the Dessert Gallery and Bakery in Houston fired them because Johnson is gay and Phillips is a lesbian. Johnson further alleges he was fired in part for hiring a transgender employee, who was also terminated in the apparent purge. The women-owned Dessert Gallery issued a statement denying the allegations and saying they look forward to the opportunity to present the side of the case in court.

Gordon Best who died in the line of duty on January 1. Clayton Hucks, 20, organized the run/walk after originally planning to just do the run by himself. Best’s badge number was 178, so Hucks planned the course to be 1.78 miles in his honor.
