Canterbury s Will Williams took a superb low catch off his own bowling to dismiss Northern Districts opener Jeet Raval. After they fell, Henry Cooper (20) and BJ Watling (31) both chipped in with handy, but not decisive knocks, while this was followed by a typically swashbuckling innings from Colin de Grandhomme, who scored 57 runs from just 37 deliveries, including five fours and two sixes. Northern District’s final score was competitive, if not a bit too much towards the lower end of that. Canterbury’s opening batsmen, Nicholls and Chad Bowes were in no mood to hang around, going after the Northern Districts bowlers from the off.
Wellington Firebirds opener Finn Allen set them up nicely against the Northern Knights, while Logan van Beek took a stunning catch.
Finn Allen scored his third fifty in five innings as the Wellington Firebirds maintained their unbeaten record in the Twenty20 Super Smash with a win over the Northern Knights on Saturday. The 21-year-old smashed 75 off just 39 balls, including a reverse-hit six off Mitchell Santner, before he was bowled by Brett Hampton, helping his side post 185-7 from their 20 overs at their Basin Reserve home. The Firebirds were been sent in by the Knights and that looked like the wrong decision as they raced to 117-0 after 10.2 overs, but from that point on they only added 68 runs off 58 balls, while losing seven wickets.

Sprinting into position, Wellington s Logan van Beek threw his body toward the ball and stuck out a hopeful hand. It had been struck cleanly off the bat of the Northern Knights No 7 Brett Hampton, and the chances of van Beek claiming the catch were slim.
But it was one of those days for the Wellington Firebirds. Van Beek threw his hand out, and it stuck, leaving commentators, fans and the fielder in disbelief.
