fresh election results in this morning and some hints of democratic optimism. i m john berman. brianna is off, cnn chief white house correspondent kaitlan collins here in morning. a lot to see in these races from last night. it really s when you look closely again, hints, which was, scents. everyone is wanting to pick up on those to know what to say come november. there were some big names on the ballots in several states but it s the special elections in new york that could point to national trends. cnn projects that democrat pat ryan will win the battleground 19th district, this is a district that joe biden narrowly carried in 2020 and that republicans really had hopes of flipping. democrats worked to make abortion rights the central issue in this race, much more on this in just a moment. also here in new york powerful committee chair jerry nadler defeat carolyn maloney which illustrated redistricting struggles for democrats. in florida val demings the former po
is joining me from jerusalem. what in terms of the focus, what have we seen here for the president s visit? reporter: well, we just saw president biden arriving in bethlehem at the presidential compound where he was greeted by mahmoud abbas. this is the first visit by a u.s. president to meet with the palestinian authority president since president trump visited in 2017. and this comes as the u.s. is really trying to shift its policy towards the palestinians. we have watched the biden administration turn back on the spigot of humanitarian aid to the palestinian people that was cut off by the trump administration. we ve seen since president biden came into office about half a billion dollars of aid. and today we re expecting president biden to announce a total of $316 million of additional aid for palestinians including $100 million for the east jerusalem hospital network that serves palestinians. here is the president earlier this morning at one of those hospitals in east j
general in this letter we ve seen expresses some frustration in how difficult it has been to get records from the secret service, especially around that time, january 6, important time, and then the house select committee and other congressional committees are concerned as well partly because the house, too, they re trying to nail down on their own the details of january 6. that includes what secret service agents witnessed of donald trump that day, what they said about it afterward and that s a big part of what they re continuing to probe, especially now after the testimony of white house aide cassidy hutchinson which did highlight the secret service and what happened there. caitlin, cnn also has new reporting about a d.c. metropolitan police officer who is corroborating details of what cassidy hutchinson said. tell us about this. right. it wasn t just the secret service who witnessed that motorcade on january 6th that donald trump was in. when cassidy hutchinson testifi
more favorable if the justices start to fear that there will be wild chaos on january 6th unless they rule by then either way. this was about two weeks before january 6. the times says this raises questions about a possible link to the idea of the violence that ultimately took place. cnn s katelyn polantz live in washington. explain to us about these revelations involved in all of these emails. reporter: hi. so this new story from the new york times describes emails between two lawyers who were working with donald trump and the trump campaign after the election. they appear to reveal that one lawyer, john eastman, he is well connected among conservatives, former supreme court clerk, that east man had insight into the internal deliberations of the supreme court and another lawyer was using that information with him to look at ramping up their legal battle with an expectation of chaos on january 6. so in these emails the new york times says that eastman on christmas eve
documents comprising more than 700 pages, some with the highest level of classification, were retrieved back in january and the national archives told the trump legal team it wanted intelligence agencies to do a damage assessment. cnn s katelyn polantz live in washington. all this new information came to light just yesterday. what are we learning? john, what we re learning comes from a newly released letter that the national archives sent to donald trump s lawyers back in may. so may 10th the archives had these initial 15 boxes of documents back from mar-a-lago and they were going through them and they realized there was a significant amount of classified records in that collection, more than 100 classified documents that totaled more than 700 pages and some of those materials were marked with highly sensitive designations, sci, sap, that s sensitive compartmented information, special access programs and that s really controlling who can actually access these records, but because the
