Company plans to rehabilitate downtown Ionia building Ionia Sentinel-Standard IONIA  A company plans to renovate a vacant building in downtown Ionia, allowing for apartments and commercial space. The Ionia City Council approved an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Exemption Certificate and Brownfield Plan for 340 W. Main St. downtown at its July 6 meeting.   WB Vacation Home Properties, LLC of Haslett is looking to invest roughly $780,000 into the 5,200 square-foot building. Records show the structure was built in 1890, and it is believed to be the first stand-alone Hudson’s store in the Midwest. The building, recognizable by its sandstone exterior, also previously housed the G.W. French Music Store.

Ionia-area businesses to highlight products, services at airport event Sentinel Staff IONIA  An annual event at the Ionia County Airport is offering an opportunity for local businesses and organizations to showcase their products and services.  Ionia’s School of Missionary Aviation Technology (SMAT) is partnering with the Ionia Area Chamber of Commerce to present a community showcase at this year’s SMAT Community Day event.  SMAT’s community event will be Saturday, June 19, at the Ionia County Airport, 84 E. Sprague Road, in Ionia. The event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with a 5K race followed by an airplane fly-in and pancake breakfast. 

Transgender musical has a winning charm

LEN POWER Cast member Jolene Misfud. Hunter is a postman who is trying to deliver a mysterious parcel to a resident in an apartment block. The recipient is hard to find and, on the way, Hunter interacts with various other residents, a transgender and gender-diverse group of people. Their stories help him on his own voyage of self-discovery. Developed by the director and cast, the story gives an insight into the lives and experiences of transgender and gender-diverse people. The characters are warm and loving, funny and eccentric with moving stories of hurt and prejudice to tell. The show is performed by a cast of six – Jolene Mifsud, Remus Douglas, Rachel Lee, MadB, Kalokairi Subakti and Henry Zovaro. Director Kat Reed also makes an appearance.
