After investing almost Rs 450 crore in the last decade in pre and post-harvest, Kashmir’s saffron fields in Pampore are smiling over the purple carpets for the first time.
Kashmir’s saffron (Crocus Sativus Kashmirianus) is one of the most expensive spices and is known for its flavour and colour. Generally, it is harvested just once a year from late October till mid-November. Saffron is used in many industries like food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and perfumery as well as in textile dyes. Now, the news is that Saffron was grown in Telangana.
The saffron farmers have been demanding that the rates of saffron should be revised. With everything becoming expensive in the market including the process involved in growing and processing the saffron, the farmers say the rates need to be increased for them to sustain.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration organised an event called Jashn-e-Saffron to promote Kashmiri Saffron in the markets worldwide and welcome the harvesting
