of pennsylvania, jim marchand, who s running for nevada secretary of state. both the nominees for governor and secretary of state in michigan, twitter dixon and the arizona republican for governor and secretary of state, kari lake, mark finchem. out of all of them, kari lake in arizona came the closest. she is a longtime local news anchor, the most charismatic at the bunch. also, i think the most dangerous. she ran a very trumpy campaign, filled with lies, threats and conspiracies. she told the press that she would teach them how to do their jobs when she got elected, but she did lose, which brings us to the other main concern around these midterms. after the 2020 election, donald trump annihilated the norm in american politics, loser concedes after an election defeat. that s an important ritual, it signals functionally the end of the campaign. it s looking for legitimacy more so than any quorum initiated process. the ex president never conceded
trump. kirsten, the former president continues to complain that the 2020 election was stolen from him, which it was not. we ve now seen that is not a winning message with independent voters. i mean, i know he s not capable of actually changing that message. given what we saw now with kari lake in arizona, who was, you know, just a glossier version of him with better make-up and lighting, is election denying, is any election denying candidate going to lose their election? it seems to be something that most voters are not buying. but, you know, donald trump, i think, is mostly if i m going to guess what shhe s thinking, he s probably thinking, i wasn t on the ballot. they just couldn t do it, but i could do it. i think that s how he thinks about things. because he has a history of bringing the republican party to heel. you know, after the january 6th attack on the capitol, you had people coming out and decrying
so even if this does go to the choice runoff here. paula quinn would need to overwhelmingly when the third party votes here. in fact we saw this with the same set of candidates, golden was a challenger there. one other ring choice runoff. so, with the two democrats out of this entire list of seats. here i think game two is when the democrats maybe feel the best about it. there are few others that they feel good about. but the problem is if they get to a team there are some where they get are a bit prohibited against kari lake in arizona. and they re going to need some surprises if they want to get to 18. yeah, we should see areas on the six is one of them. they are kind of stand on a tough goal. that s the county update we just got a couple minutes ago. the pima county portion of the six district is not as democratic as the rest of the
and then act surprised when they don t win an election. arizona has heavy independent voters. they often vote republican in the past, their current governor, greg doocy for example. so when you try to make yourself smaller, make yourself feel better. but not think about the implications of that. that s a problem. but there s a number of candidates around the country who think it s bad to shrink the republican party. they only went to get more people in the tenth. you need bush, mccain, romney, trump, mcconnell. you need all the kinds of flavors of republicans together. because when you start to eject people, it makes it really hard to win. in states that are purple.
like arizona, and others, pennsylvania, georgia, you name it. i want to go back to john king. how did hobbs win and kari lake, when she was out campaigning. was she out walking around with a constant incredible lighting and a microphone at her at all times trying to create trauma? how did she win? i think you re gas had made the point. i ll go through the numbers, both in arizona and make a national perspective. but this election, many of these candidates that voters view as a little too spicy, a little too out there. whether it is trumpism, or election denial. whether it s restrictions, or something else. a lot of voters just decided, we don t want that spicy. we will take normal, we will take maybe a little bit more
