Columbia Public Schools announced Monday their plans to potentially send students back to the classroom on January 19, 2021.
The Columbia Board of Education decided to push the date for students to return to an in-person learning environment from Jan. 11 to Jan. 19. The board also plans to install air purifier systems in classrooms throughout Columbia, to help stop the spread of the virus.
CPS parents and teachers have voiced concerns about how online learning is affecting the mental health of some children. Students are finding the online learning environment challenging and aren t as motivated to communicate with teachers and classmates.

they believe it needed to noting lead levels are below the action level. mayor weaver calls it a moral issue. they gave us their word they would see us through this lead and galvanized service line replacement and that we would have pods stay open until then. they backed out on what they said. mayor karen weaver joins me now. it s hard to believe it s been four years since the flint water crisis began. the government s office is saying they are disputing your characterization of them cutting off the free bottled water distribution early. a federal judge has denied an emergency injunction to keep those, what you call pods, in flint. why is it a federal judge is siding with the state if you re saying you still need the bottled water? i will tell you, joy, one of the things that i ve heard about that case, because i haven t been involved in it that much, but it was one person who made the claim.
lawsuit against the state. obviously, you need to work cooperatively with the state in a way thatcity has in u.s. history, because do who caused this crisis in the first place, what are you hoping from from this lawsuit? you know what, this lawsuit is about more than water pods staying open. in addition to that we talked about things we need, we need fixtures in the home, we need in home plumbing, hot water heaters, these things have been damaged. we talked about the reputation and how this impacted the reputation of our cities. there was a loss of property values, they went down. we ve had civil liabilities that have happened as a result of this, we ve had permanent loss of residents so the money we would have been collecting is gone. so this is about much more than water pods. it s about justice for the city of flint. karen weaver, the mayor of
