Our Correspondent Diphu, Nov.14 (EMN): The Karbi Students Association (KSA) of the Inglongpho faction has condemned the damaging of a foundation stone for the construction of Forest IB at Sabuda under the Chinthong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency in West Karbi Anglong, which is very close to the inter-state boundary with Meghalaya, on the night of November 12. It may be mentioned that the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang during his visit to Umrukhuti for the Amur Falcon festival on November 12 had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Forest guest house. Our Correspondent Diphu, Oct. 27 (EMN): Three persons including a tax inspector, a trader and one from among the crowd were injured when a mob attacked officials of the Taxation Department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) at Sukhanjan Market in Karbi Anglong under Bokajan Police Station, Diphu on Thursday. Three persons were arrested in this connection. The incident happened when the tax officials were on their rounds checking trade licenses and advising the traders on the need to give taxes to the government. During the process, one person identified as Bijoy Singh came on a scooter and asked the shopkeepers to shut their shops after which, the tax officials were surrounded by a mob numbering to hundreds armed with sticks, iron rods, stones and daos to beat them up. One of the traders from Sukhanjan, who was beaten up while trying to save the officials, said that he had overheard about the impending attack five days prior. Our Correspondent Diphu, Aug. 18 (EMN): In continuation of the demonstration over alleged anomalies in land compensation of 4 lane road construction on the NH-36 stretch, the Karbi Students Association (KSA) of Jameson Timung faction of Diphu District Committee (DDC) have come up with stronger allegations against Joint Secretary, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in charge Competent Authority Land Acquisition (CALA) for 4 lane road construction, Tensing Rongpi and Mandal Tarun Rongpi. Following a protest on Aug. 17, the KSA has now demanded the KAAC authority to remove Tensing Rongpi from his post and to terminate Tarun Rongpi from the post of Mandal, failing on which, the association will go for road blockade on NH-36. Our Correspondent Diphu, Aug.17 (EMN): The Karbi Students Association (KSA) of the Jameson Timung faction held a protest infront of Semson Sing Engti Memorial Park in Diphu on Wednesday for the alleged involvement of Mandals and SKs for land compensation at the ongoing 4-lane road construction along the NH-36 stretch in Karbi Anglong. The KSA members alleged that several Mandals and SKs are acquiring lands illegally. The members said that the culprits have prepared land pattas in their names or their children names without the knowledge of the land owners.
