Authorities in north Iowa are investigating a possible case of “swatting” earlier this week southwest of Clear Lake.
“Swatting” is when someone calls emergency services with a fake report that results in a large number of armed law enforcement personnel converging on a certain location, much like a S.W.A.T. team. Kanawha Police say it appears that was the case Monday night around 9:30 p.m. when they and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the 200 block of West 9th Street in Kanawha for a possible shooting victim and an active threat.
