Archbishop Lwanga death: Fake news thrives on social media

Reading a jointly signed document, Dr Ssekitoleko explained that the post-mortem was conducted by a team of senior pathologists in presence of two family representatives and two physicians delegated by the church, adding that at the end of the exercise, it was established that the archbishop had a heart attack due to a blood clot in the heart vessels.   But the post-mortem report did not put a stop to the spread of fake videos on YouTube. It’s only a clip by NTV with 12,495 views uploaded on April 3, 2021, titled “Archbishop Lwanga found dead in his home” that features in the top 10 most-watched videos about Lwanga’s death. The rest are fake commentaries. Lwanga was buried inside Rubaga Cathedral on Thursday.

Archbishop Lwanga s successors challenged to maintain his legacy – 93 3 KFM

About 500 people have been invited to send off the Archbishop due to the covid19 pandemic. A number of dignitaries have attended the funeral mass including the vice president Edward Ssekandi and the queen of Buganda, Silvia Nagginda. In his homily, the chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal conference who is also the Kiyinda-Mityana Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa challenged Ugandans and those who will follow in the footsteps of the prelate to maintain his legacy. He said that the late Lwanga has done his duty of serving the Lord, and the challenge is now on those remaining on earth. Meanwhile human Rights activist Miria Matembe who has attended the mass says the late Arch-Bishop died with a mission accomplished.

Religious leaders should speak out

Daily Monitor Tuesday February 16 2021 Advertisement Today, we celebrate Archbishop Janani Luwum’s Day. It is a day when we remember that the archbishop stood up and spoke up against the excesses of Idi Amin’s regime. We particularly remember that Archbishop Luwum protested the unexplained killings and disappearances of citizens.  We recognise Luwum’s courage and his calling as a man of God. Indeed, we recognise the sacrifice and the ultimate price he paid. It is in that spirit that today, we call upon religious  leaders in the country to stand up and speak for democracy and the right of their flock in accordance to what their faith demands of them.
