Despite being down four forwards, the Prince George Cougars came up with their grittiest effort of the season.
Connor Bowie and Koehn Ziemmer each potted their seventh of the shortened campaign in a 2-1 win against the Kelowna Rockets Tuesday at Prospera Place.
Ziemmer opened the scoring at the 7:08 mark of the opening period coming off the far half wall, backhanding a floating puck past Rockets netminder Cole Schwebius for a 1-0 lead.
In the second, the Cougars continued their patient yet aggressive approach on the forecheck as Bowie cashed in on the penalty kill, taking full advantage of a 2-on-1 rush.

It was far from a masterpiece but the Prince George Spruce Kings find themselves in the win column at the Chilliwack hub.
A two-goal second period from Christian Buono and Ben LeFranc paced the Spruce Kings to a 3-2 victory on Easter Sunday against the Merritt Centennials.
SPRUCE WIN!

The online fundraiser had collected more than $68,000 as of Sunday night (Jan. 24) and is being organized by Kathleen Zary of Saskatoon, mother of Kamloops Blazer Connor Zary. The money being raised will be used to support any possible renovations needed at the Sopotyk home, health-care costs and any additional supports the family may require. The Kamloops Blazers issued a statement after learning of the accident. “We are devastated at the news of Blazers’ forward Kyrell Sopotyk. Kyrell suffered a life-altering injury this weekend,” the statement reads. “He is a tremendous young man and an exemplary representative of our hockey club. The Blazer family is behind Kyrell and the Sopotyks. At this time, we will respect the privacy of his family.”
