KAMISHIHORO, Hokkaido - Ice bubbles on the surface of a frozen lake in Japan s northernmost prefecture are attracting photographers keen to catch a glimpse of the beautiful disk-shaped formations created by nature.
The bubbles appear in Lake Nukabira in the town of Kamishihoro, Hokkaido, when gas and other substances at the bottom freeze near the surface and become trapped in multiple layers. This phenomenon is usually seen only for a short period of time after the surface of the lake freezes and before snow forms a thick covering on top.
