At the end of all three seasons of Capital City’s track and field program’s existence, the Cavaliers and Lady Cavaliers have come home from the Class 5 state track and field championships with a school first.
The first girls individual champion was in the first year of the program, the first boys individual champion came last year. This year, they brought home the school’s first team state trophy.
For the second consecutive year, when the Class 5 boys 800-meter run was done, Keion Grieve was standing atop the podium. The Capital City Cavalier claimed his second state championship in the 800 Friday when he ran a time of 1:53.64 at Adkins Stadium in the Class 5 track and field state championships.
Capital City celebrated its seniors in style. The Lady Cavaliers sent off their three seniors with a 48-37 win Friday night against the Mexico Lady Bulldogs at Capital City High School.
The Capital City offense went quiet late. The Lady Cavaliers came back from a third-quarter deficit to take a fourth-quarter lead, but were unable to hold on as the Eldon Lady Mustangs beat Capital City 53-50 at Capital City High School on Tuesday.
