The draft proposal for delimitation of Assam's assembly and parliamentary constituencies has sparked a blame game between the Congress and the ruling BJP.
Congress has said that the Election Commission could have waited for the Supreme Court hearing on July 25 before publishing the draft proposal. While Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged that his Lok Sabha seat has been "dismembered" for political motives a year before polls, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the proposal and accused some people of trying to rake up a communal issue.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda will visit Assam this month and they will take part in two mega public meetings of Assam BJP s Mahajanasampark Abhiyan, Assam BJP said.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday moved the ministry of external affairs to ensure the safe return of a PhD scholar from Assam “stuck” in Israel because of the ongoing hostilities with Hamas-run Gaza.
In a letter to foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the two-time MP informed about Naziha Tarannam who is “stuck in Negev in Israel due to Israel-Palestine conflict”.
Naziha is a fourth-year PhD scholar of chemistry at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, one of Israel’s leading research universities with around 20,000 students and 4,000 faculty members.
She hails from Dergaon in Upper Assam’s Golaghat district which falls under Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency represented by Gaurav.

Unrest in the State because of his unfulfilled ambition since his stint with Congress, the Kaliabor MP said
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has said that Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s “unfulfilled dream” of becoming the Chief Minister of Assam is the root of all problems in the State.
Congress and its allies in the 10-party ‘Mahajot’ has been targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party for giving Dr. Sarma “more power” than Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
“The people of Assam can hope to get some respite if the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh make Himanta the Chief Minister for a day. It is his unfulfilled dream that has made the State burn,” Mr. Gaurav Gogoi, son of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told journalists on Wednesday.
