Construction will begin next month with a groundbreaking ceremony, according to officials. Despite challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, officials say the project remains on track. The majority of the construction jobs created by the project will be hired locally. Commissioners say 90% of the construction that was bid on by local vendors were awarded locally. “Ensuring this project creates local jobs for Kalamazoo County residents was a top priority of mine and I am proud to say that 90% of the talented construction workers who will be hired to build our new Justice Faculty will be local residents,” Board of Commissioners Chair Tracy Hall said. “The COVID-19 pandemic h

Kalamazoo County resumes county ID program from 2020 pandemic shut down

Kalamazoo County Administration building - Google Street View KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM)  Kalamazoo County residents can now schedule an appointment to obtain a new county ID, renew an expired ID or replace a lost or stolen ID. This service was shut down in March 2020 by then Kalamazoo County Clerk Tim Snow due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kalamazoo County Clerk & Register of Deeds, Meredith Place announced Thursday the immediate availability of the Kalamazoo County Identification Card. “From the moment I took office, I made re-launching this service a priority, which is why I am overjoyed to finally be able to re-open this popular program,” Place said. “Kalamazoo County residents need identification now more than ever, whether it’s to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, access affordable housing or open a bank account.
