Ellwood City Council candidates likely to advance to the general election

Primary election results may spell changes to school board in November

Borough council candidates aim to revitalize Ellwood City

So, meet the candidates:  Barry, 80, of Ellwood City said he s the common sense candidate.  A retired businessman, he owned Barry s Service Station, a towing, service and repair shop, for over 50 years, but said his only expertise comes from decades of living and working in the community.  I m nothing special, Barry said. I just listen to the issues coming up and make the best decision for the town.   He s finishing his first term back on the council after serving previously in the early 2000s, and is most proud of the work he s done to offer affordable and reliable electric and sewage services to locals.

Race for Ellwood City School Board Directors has candidates vying for votes

Ellwood City Ledger ELLWOOD CITY – There will be no party politics in the May 18 primary race for Ellwood City Area School Board directors.  Still set to be one tough election, eight candidates are running as both Democrats and Republicans for five, four-year seats on the board. Incumbents Kathy Galbreath McCommons, Barbara Wilson, Renee Pitrelli and Norm Boots will face off against former board member Kathleen Pansera and newcomers Claire Fauzey, Kathy Tillia and JoEllen Eichler in the primary, with all of the incumbents also defending their two-year seats in an unopposed race. The first-timers are hoping to bring a new perspective to the district.

UMPC mobilizes medicine for Ellwood City vaccine clinic

ELLWOOD CITY – The search for local shots is over.  On Saturday, UPMC Jameson will walk 500 first doses of the Pfizer vaccine right into the Lincoln High School large gym, and, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., offer the shots to any area residents that want them. The push for the vaccine clinic came from Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Myers, who contacted leaders at UPMC Jameson about delivering vaccines to places where people live and work, especially locations like Ellwood City that lack easy access to a medical center.  Before the fire chief reached out to us, we had had some internal discussions about expanding our clinics to the Ellwood City area, so it made it a pretty easy decision when he approached us, said Ron Barnes, coordinator of pharmacy compliance at UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon. We were eager to partner with them as well, and they certainly are an under-resourced area now that they have no hospital locally there.
