For most people, COVID-19 is fleeting.
While their battles with the virus itself can be enduring, after they get better they typically stay better recovered individuals don t often continue to display symptoms of illness.
But some do.
These people, called long haulers, make a full recovery from COVID-19, yet continue to feel sick for months on end. For them, even a brief moment of contact with a COVID-positive person can cause long-term suffering.
That s what happened to Kathy Doutt, 60, a support clerk at Heritage Valley Health System who lives in Ohioville.

In late November, Doutt tested positive for COVID-19 after interacting with someone who was sick.
OSBORNE Osborne Elementary School, part of the Quaker Valley School District, will not close despite confirming another positive case of COVID-19 in the building.
The district was notified of a second positive case at the school on Thursday, bringing the number of cases in the elementary school s rolling 14-day average to two. Though the Pennsylvania Department of Education recommends small schools like Osborne alter their instruction models when the 14-day average falls between two and four, after district leaders consulted with the Allegheny County Health Department, they made the decision to keep the building open and continue the blended learning model.

Duquesne Light Co. recently began its annual vegetation management efforts in Beaver County and workers are operating in tandem with borough and township officials to keep area power lines clear and protected from seasonal storms.
Though local government agencies work all year to keep trees and vegetation away from power lines in their communities, Duquesne Light boosts area efforts in the spring and summer months, as the company provides service for 72,000 county residents through over 400 circuit miles of transmission lines.
ALIQUIPPA Area residents had a shot at getting the COVID-19 vaccine at a clinic held at Central Outreach Wellness Center on Wednesday, but not many took it.
The clinic, which was organized in response to low vaccination rates in Beaver County, made 300 first doses of the Pfizer vaccine available to anyone eligible under Phase 1A and 1B of the vaccine rollout, and aimed to immunize the most marginalized area residents. However, those residents may not have been looking to get immunized.
From 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., when workers at Central Outreach were distributing first doses, only 69 people came in to get a shot.
