May 18 primary will bump one candidate from New Sewickley supervisor race

NEW SEWICKLEY TWP. Three candidates are running for two six-year terms as supervisors for the township in the May 18 primary.  Incumbent Fritz Retsch will battle interim Supervisor Charles Mike Phipps and newcomer Jenny Dambach Fessler for the Republican nominations, while Democrats have no candidate on the ballot in the race.  Retsch, 81, has lived in New Sewickley Township for 12 years. A retired school teacher, he taught at the Ambridge Area School District for 40 years and is now an active member of the community, sitting on several area boards for the Community College of Beaver County, the CCBC Foundation, Old Economy Village, Big Knob Grange and California University of Pennsylvania. A husband and pet owner, Retsch has served nearly six years as a supervisor and contributed to the acquisition of $9.1 million in grants, building the amphitheater in Green Valley Park and technical upgrades to the township offices and police department. 

Candidates for Riverside school board hope to leave political parties behind

ELLWOOD CITY – Five candidates are running for four four-year seats as directors of the Riverside School District in the May 18 primary.  Incumbent Roger Radevski will face newcomers Mathew Lawrence, Daniel Kelosky, Kate Reed and Chris Chill on both the Democrat and Republican ballots, as all candidates have cross-filed.  Lawrence, 41, is a North Sewickley Township resident. A father of two young boys and an Army veteran with a Master of Science in exercise physiology, he s an expert in health and safety. Currently a project manager and senior adviser for a health care company, Lawrence has worked in health care, research and analytics for 16 years and been an active member of the community, helping to coach soccer and T-ball in the district and volunteering for Trail Life, an organization similar to the Boy Scouts that teaches outdoor skills and leadership. Candidates vie for a few positions on the Blackhawk school board

BEAVER FALLS – While students at the Blackhawk School District are itching to get out of school for the summer, a number of their parents and neighbors are competing to get into it.  Municipal primary elections are scheduled for May 18 and all three of the regional races for Blackhawk School Board director are going to be tight, with every candidate running as both a Democrat and Republican.    Region 1 Two candidates are running for one, four-year seat as Blackhawk School Board director for Region 1. Incumbent Neil Morrison, the current school board president, is facing newcomer Lynn Kalcevic in the race. Morrison, 63, of South Beaver Township, said he has a proven record of serving the district and wants a chance to continue that.
