Derek Chauvin trial live: George Floyd s car passenger testify day 7

MINNEAPOLIS   The man who was in the vehicle with George Floyd last Memorial Day before his struggle with police officers appeared before the court Tuesday for a hearing over potential testimony in the murder trial of former officer Derek Chauvin. Morries Hall has been subpoenaed to appear as a witness in the trial, but he filed a motion late last month saying he would refuse to answer questions if he s forced to testify. He appeared via Zoom on Tuesday. Judge Peter Cahill instructed defense and government lawyers to draft narrowly tailored questions for Hall, who may still have to testify.

Chauvin trial live, George Floyd: Minneapolis police chief testifies

MINNEAPOLIS  The city s top cop took the witness stand Monday in the murder trial of former officer Derek Chauvin, charged in George Floyd s death. Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo testified about police training and tactics, but he will not be allowed to discuss Chauvin s firing for the jurors. Meanwhile, the doctor who provided emergency care to Floyd at Hennepin County Medical Center was the first person to testify Monday morning. He told jurors that – at the time and based on the information he had available – he believed Floyd died from a lack of oxygen, rather than an overdose or heart attack.

Derek Chauvin trial: Minneapolis reckons with George Floyd s death

USA TODAY MINNEAPOLIS – Ten months after George Floyd s death, his face looks out across a city still raw: The intersection where he died under the knee of a police officer. The neighborhood burned and looted over the following days. The fortified courthouse where that former police officer is being tried on murder charges. From the razor wire ringing the courthouse to a smattering of activists occupying the intersection where Derek Chauvin and three officers held Floyd to the ground, this city is still reckoning with the consequences. Although the streets are largely empty of mass protests like last summer, calls for justice and reform echo across the city.
