He is also expected to provide an update on new federal payroll protection funds available to small businesses. Applications are now being accepted to ensure some of the hardest hit businesses, including women and minority-owned small businesses receive funds, a news release from the city said. $650 million has already been distributed to 5,400 Detroit businesses, the city said.

A coalition that the city of Detroit and 30 private organizations formed to help businesses navigate the coronavirus pandemic just got a captain.
Kai Bowman began the position leading Detroit Means Business on Dec. 8, according to a news release. He comes to the job from Mayor Mike Duggan s office, where he was executive director for planning, housing and development.
Bowman s hiring comes after a national search led by Detroit Means Business Chair Carla Walker-Miller, CEO of Detroit-based Walker-Miller Energy Services. His title is vice president of the coalition, which is a subsidiary of the nonprofit arm of quasi-public development agency the Detroit Economic Growth Corp. Bowman s boss is Kevin Johnson, CEO of the DEGC.
