Watch live: Duggan update on Detroit s COVID-19 response

Federal and state officials are looking at Ford Field, the domed stadium that is home to the Detroit Lions in downtown Detroit, as a possible regional mass COVID-19 vaccination site. Nearly 9% of Detroiters have been vaccinated compared to about 15% of residents in the state, the city said in a prior news release. Just 3.7% of the nearly 1.3 million Michiganders who have gotten at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine are Black, even though they make up 13.7% of the state s population, new data released Tuesday from the state health department shows. Denise Fair, Detroit Health Department Director, is expected to join Duggan at the news conference.

Duggan is expected to expand access to new group of Detroit residents for the COVID-19 vaccine. Ron Brundidge, director of the Department of Public Works, is expected to join Duggan at the news conference to provide an update on the city s snow removal progress along major roads and more than 1,880 miles of residential side streets.

Duggan is expected to announce new vaccine sites for seniors in Detroit and information on free and low cost transportation to TCF Center to get vaccinated. He is also expected to provide an update on new federal payroll protection funds available to small businesses. Applications are now being accepted to ensure  some of the hardest hit businesses, including women and minority-owned small businesses receive funds, a news release from the city said. $650 million has already been distributed to 5,400 Detroit businesses, the city said.
