Pegasus is rogue technology, enters our lives without our knowledge; Kapil Sibal informs SC ANI | Updated: Aug 05, 2021 13:14 IST
New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday was informed by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal that Pegasus is a rogue technology that enters our lives without our knowledge and it surveys every moment. It is an assault on privacy, dignity, and values of our republic, Sibal told a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana which was hearing pleas seeking court-monitored probe into reports that the government was using Israeli software Pegasus to spy on people.
Sibal was appearing for senior journalists N Ram and Sashi Kumar.
In an exclusive interview with India Today, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said that social media companies are welcome to do business in India but they must follow the law. This comes amid the Centre’s row with Twitter over the new IT rules.
Who is Disha Ravi
Several social media users have claimed that environment activist Disha Ravi, arrested in the Toolkit case, paid Congress leader and senior Supreme Court advocate Kabil Sibal s son Akhil Sibal Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh per hearing.
The claim
The claim was originally made by columnist Abhijit Iyer Mitra, which was further amplified by many social media handles on Twitter and Facebook. Disha Ravi hires Akhil Sibal - that s between 5 to 7 lakhs per appearance. Do the maths, Mitra tweeted on February 19.
Right-wing website TFIPOST also carried an article on the same claim but added that Sibal could have appeared pro bono but termed it highly unlikely.
