The Supreme Court on Monday extended the relief granted to filmmaker Leena Manimekalai of no coercive action in connection with multiple FIRs registered against her over a controversial poster showing goddess Kali smoking a cigarette.
Manimekalai is facing FIRs in multiple states for allegedly hurting religious sentiments in connection with a poster of the movie in which goddess Kaali has been shown smoking a cigarette.
The filmmaker has told the SC that the poster of her documentary showing the Hindu deity Kali smoking a cigarette was not meant to hurt religious sentiments.
The Court also directed that existing and subsequent FIRs against the filmmaker be clubbed together, as multiple FIRs in several States would cause serious prejudice to her.
The poster of the film Kaali depicts Hindu Goddess Kali smoking cigarettes which not only hurts the religious sentiments of common Hindus but is also against the basics of morality and decency.
