District police chief Sun Eng told The Post on April 5 that upon arrival at the scene, officers determined that it was an accident with no other apparent factors involved. “The man was casting his net over by the banks of the stream and it collapsed, killing him instantly,” he said. Commune chief Toeng Lam identified the man as Chak Chem, a 21-year-old resident of Rohal village.

PHNOM PENH, April 4 (Xinhua): Cambodia s famed Angkor Archeological Park received 4,482 foreign visitors in the first quarter of 2021, down 98.8 per cent from 383,663 over the same period last year, confirmed a statement. The ancient park made a gross revenue of US$185,079 from ticket sales during the January-March period this year, also down 98.9 per cent from 17.9 million dollars over the same period last year, said the state-owned Angkor Enterprise s statement. The huge slump was due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has forced the Southeast Asian nation to impose entry restrictions for all foreign travelers since March last year. Ministry of Tourism secretary of state and spokesman Top Sopheak pinned hopes for a tourism recovery on Covid-19 vaccines.

The government issued a sub-decree on March 16 to establish Bokor town in the western reaches of the province, adjacent to the western edge of Kampot town and comprised of three communes formerly in Teuk Chhou district – Prek Tnort, Koh Touch and Boeung Touk from west to east. The new town will have significant overlap with Bokor National Park – which extends to bordering districts and neighbouring Preah Sihanouk province – and will house the park’s main attractions.

New multi-purpose sea port set for K Kong

The government plans to rebuild the derelict old Dang Tong Port in Koh Kong province into a medium-sized multi-purpose sea port at a cost of $1.5 million to spur waterway trade with Thailand, a senior public works official said.
