Pre-commissioning work on the $350 million Dara Sakor International Airport in Koh Kong province remains on schedule, with flight operations planned to start in mid-2021, State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) spokesman Sin Chansereyvutha told The Post on March 15.
This comes even as the February 20 community transmission compels more provinces to tighten their borders – especially those along the coast.
Chansereyvutha noted that the runway, terminal buildings and other facilities had been completed at the end of last year.

On Sunday (March 14) alone, the Ministry of Health reported another 41 cases of Covid-19 linked to the community outbreak, bringing the total to 792 in just over three weeks.
Among the 41 are 12 Cambodian, 23 Chinese, four Vietnamese and two Thai nationals. Kandal province recorded the most cases at 28, followed by Phnom Penh at 12 and one in Prey Veng province.

People-centric projects are top priority for JICA in the Kingdom

The government’s goal of Cambodia becoming a high middle-income country by 2030 before reaching high-income status by 2050 could well become a reality given Cambodia’s stellar economic growth of 7.3 per cent over a decade, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, these ambitious targets can only be achieved by diversifying the Kingdom’s domestic economy and by developing human capital to support growth.
Towards this, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has played a critical role in assisting the socio-economic development of Cambodia.
