India Business News: Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), India's financial hub, is preparing for its next phase of growth. The city was created in 2007 as
GIFT City started in 2007 as a completely greenfield experiment when PM Modi was the chief minister of the state of Gujarat. In 2020 the government created the IFSCA as a unified regulator. It has issued more than 30 regulations for industries including aircraft leasing, and ship leasing. In the financial domain, we have banks, funds, capital markets and insurance.
This marks a significant expansion of the GIFT City s financial sector, which is expected to play a key role in India s economic growth, International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) chairman K Rajaraman said here.
"We are coming up with payments regulations shortly, maybe in the next few months. This will enable regulated entities to provide these services to ensure instant settlement of payments," IFSCA Chairman K Rajaraman said while addressing the global fintech festival here. Currently, such payments are cleared through the banking system, which is time-consuming.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra was on Monday given additional charge of the post of telecommunications secretary, a Personnel Ministry order said. K Rajaraman, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, relinquished his charge on Monday.
