ST. LOUIS (AP) Jávier Báez hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to break a scoreless tie and propel the Chicago Cubs to a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night.
Báez hit an 0-1 slider from Alex Reyes (2-1) 417 feet onto the center field batter’s eye for his 11th home run of the season. It was just the second earned run allowed by Reyes in 25 innings this season.
“I was sitting on the curveball a few times during Wainwright and I feel like they knew it, so I didn’t get that pitch,” Báez said, referring to Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. “The guy (Reyes) who throws the hardest is different.”

Former teammates, franchise greats and Slovenian countrymen congratulate Los Angeles captain
9. May, 2021
It was a grand night for Anze Kopitar.
The Los Angeles Kings celebrated their captain for scoring his 1,000th career point, rolling out the red carpet and the retro video clips.
The Kings played a lengthy highlight video of many Kopitar milestone points (interestingly enough, Kopitar’s 500th career point came on Justin Williams’ 200th craeer goal) from his first goal to his most recent on Tuesday.
Kopitar joined Marcel Dionne, Luc Robitaille and Dave Taylor as the only players to score 1,000 career points for the Kings.

Tomas Nido, Kevin Pillar and Jonathan Villar drove in two runs each to power the visiting New York Mets past the St. Louis Cardinals 7-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday.
The result ended the Cardinals winning streak, which reached six games after St. Louis took the first game of the twin bill 4-1.
In Game 2, Mets manager Luis Rojas deployed reliever Miguel Castro for one scoreless inning as his opener before turning to Jordan Yamamoto for 2 2/3 innings. Yamamoto (1-0) earned the victory by allowing one run on four hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Even though Justin Williams’ numbers are not great so far this season, the St. Louis Cardinals’ outfielder has hit the ball very well. Williams’ .231/.333/.385/.718 slash line does not show how hard he has hit the ball this season. The 25-year-old is in the top 8% of the league in average exit velocity (94.0 mph) and the top 7% of the league in barrel rate (19.2%). Because of this, he has hit the ball hard in nearly 62% of his at-bats. For someone who only has a wOBA of .296, this is very encouraging.

Everyone loves a good murder mystery, don’t they? Well, according to the Guinness Book of Records they do. Dame Agatha Christie holds the title of World’s best-selling Fiction Writer with sales of over 2 billion books. And Christie’s play,
The Mousetrap, has been in the West End since 1952 and looks set to run forever. However, as in a true AC story, things are not always what they seem, and a new contender for the crown has raised their highly coifed head to challenge the Dame’s dominance of crime in theatreland with the opening of
